For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for arts and photography. I got my first digital camera when I was around 8 and then a nicer point-and-shoot camera in my early teens and from then on I believe I had truly found my calling. I started learning a bit more about photography in an after-school class in Grade 12, and then really learning about the exposure triangle and how to use my camera to its full potential in 2020 after a few years of being a house painter. I officially started my photography business as a lifestyle and wedding photographer in 2020 under the business name Jessie Anne Photography. In 2021 I changed my business name to Hen & Bee Photography to memorialize my dog that had passed, Henry, and to the other dog I still have, Phoebe.
I have always had a passion to work with newborns. In fact, when I was in high school, I truly believed I would become a NICU nurse, but quickly realized I was too emotional and empathetic (and also not so great at math LOL) to care for cute, little humans. I then realized I could continue my passion with photography AND incorporate newborns in the mix. In the past year, I started to really research and learn about Newborn Photography and knew that it was something that would bring me immense joy. I finally took the jump in early December 2023 and knew I had made the right choice.
In November 2023, I turned 24. Here are 24 quick things I've learned in my 24 years of life:
- Never stop learning, knowledge is powerful
- Appreciation and gratitude are worth more than money can buy
- It costs absolutely nothing to be kind
- Hard times will always pass, just give it time
- Beauty is perception, not a fact
- Be forgiving
- Always trust your instincts
- Genuine connections are so important
- Do things that get you out of your comfort zone
- Not everything goes as planned, everything happens for a reason
- Small progress is STILL progress
- Not everything is as serious as you make it
- Change is good and is a normal part of your life
- Self-awareness is the first step to personal growth
- Always stand up for yourself, and the people you love
- Learn to find the excitement in the ordinary
- Don't compare yourself to others
- Say "I love you" more
- Do more things for yourself
- Get excited about small things
- Set goals and meet them, and then forgive yourself if you don't
- Care about your future, financial freedom is a necessity
- You cannot control how other people feel about you/treat you
- Show up for the people you love. One day they won't be here
I'm a really big believer of love, fairytales will NEVER get old to me. In fact, I have a fairytale of my own. In 2020, I married my amazing husband, Joel, on our 4 year dating anniversary.
Some more fun facts about me:
- I LOVE classical music. In fact, I hit 1 year of learning how to play the violin in November, and classical songs are my favorite pieces to learn. Every time I pick my violin up, I get more obsessed with it. I also think it would be insanely cool to play in an orchestra one day.
- My husband and I also have another dog Vincent, who just turned one, but got him after I renamed my business (no one tell him hahaha).
- I love reading when I have spare time. My self care consists of a long, hot bath and my current read. I will read just about anything, so if you have any reading recommendations, send them my way!
